Bar Manager – TUI river cruises

Position Summary

Bar Manager is responsible for preparation and service of beverages, including food, to manage bar inventory and supplies, to ensure bar cleanliness and hygiene, bar staff management, and maintains positive guest interactions.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Operational

  • Provide professional, welcoming, and courteous guest service at all times.
  • Maintain expert knowledge of the beverage offering and ensure consistency in drink preparation according to established recipes.
  • Oversee daily bar operations, ensuring seamless service delivery aligned with company standards.
  • Monitor stock usage, implement cost-control measures, and contribute to achieving financial targets.
  • Identify guest preferences and dietary restrictions, offering personalized alternatives when needed.
  • Actively support the Restaurant Manager in staff training and development initiatives.
  • Supervise bar staff performance, providing feedback and recommendations for improvement or disciplinary measures as required.
  • Respond effectively to guest feedback and complaints, ensuring prompt resolution and guest satisfaction.
  • Track and report equipment damage or breakage, ensuring records are maintained.
  • Monitor product rotation, expiration dates, and availability of bar items.
  • Assist with monthly stock counts, purchase orders, and deliveries.

Training & Development

  • Attend all meetings, training activities or classes related to assigned position as required.

Financial

  • Strive to achieve cost, revenue, and guest satisfaction targets, implementing improvements as needed.
  • Monitor slow-moving stock items and manage expiration control.
  • Oversee monthly inventories, purchase orders, equipment, and delivery control.
  • Follow up on pending maintenance or stock requests and ensure proper storage practices.

Safety Responsibilities

  • Maintain a safe and sanitary environment for all guests and crew members.
  • Always follow proper procedures and instructions to prevent damage of any kind of ship or company property.
  • Know and comply with the European sanitation program and regulations pertaining to his/her working area.
  • Uphold high standards of cleanliness and compliance with HACCP and other safety regulations.
  • Guarantee the safe and correct use of all bar-related equipment and machinery.
  • Identify and report safety risks to management immediately.
  • Participate in safety drills as required.
  • Participate in safety training as required.

Other Duties and Responsibilities

  • Assist with monthly inventories and other administrative tasks as instructed by supervisors.
  • Collaborate with other departments to ensure smooth and efficient operations across the ship.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned, including luggage handling, loading, and garbage off-loading.
  • As assigned and instructed by supervisor.

Qualifications

Knowledge, experience, skill, and/or ability

Required

Required

  • Experience as a Bar Manager / Head Bartender.
  • Excellent command of spoken and written English.
  • Experience with inventory management and revenue control.
  • Leadership abilities with a focus on team development.
  • Organized, disciplined, and dependable.
  • Able to perform well under pressure.
  • Comfortable working in multicultural environments.
  • Outgoing and personable, with strong guest service orientation.
  • Capable of delivering training and coaching to team members.

Preferred

  • Knowledge of additional language, preferably German.
